The first steps will take place within your comfort zone. Go to ads.google.com and log in with your preferred account.
For adding your in-banner videos to Google Ads, we will create a new campaign. It’s
somewhat similar to what you’re used to, but differs slightly when it comes to adding
your creatives. We’ll walk you through it.
Step 1: Navigate to "Campaigns."
Go to your brand’s general dashboard and click on "Campaigns" in the light grey sidebar of your browser. Now, click on the blue plus and select "New Campaign".
Step 2: Select the goal of your campaign.
This is based on whatever metric would make this campaign successful to you, but it
also needs to be suitable for in-banner video ads. You can see which goal suffices by
hovering over it. All goals that say "Display" are good to go (at the moment of writing,
only the goal "App Promotion" doesn’t suffice). Click on your desired goal and then on
"Continue".
Step 3: Select a campaign type.
While you would naturally opt for ‘Video’, since it says you can reach viewers across the web, you have to select "Display" instead. On Google Ads, "video" means "instream" or "outstream" video. These are slightly different formats than in-banner video ads, and will not be used in this step by step guide. If you want to know the difference between in-banner video and in-stream video, have a look at this article.
Step 4: Select a campaign subtype.
If asked, you must select a campaign subtype. Choose carefully, because you can’t
change this selection later. If you don’t want any specific settings, just select "Standard display campaign".
Step 5: Select how you’d like to reach your goal.
Here you just fill in your business’s website or whatever website you want your traffic to lead to. When finished, click on "Continue".
You’re now about to describe all needed details for your campaign.
Step 6: Fill in the desired campaign name.
Please note that you have to be very accurate here, as you need the exact same name later on!
Step 7: Set all other details.
Set the location you’d like to target, the language your audience reads or speaks, and
choose your bidding and budget settings. Don’t forget to fill in all additional settings
such as planning, start and end date and frequency limits. This is all similar to how you would generally set your campaigns.
Step 8: Create your Ad Group.
Fill in a name and make sure to be very accurate. Just as the Campaign Name, you need the Ad Group Name later on.
Step 9: Scroll down to "Create your ads".
Subsequently, you get to "Create your ads". Here, you will see one of these two options: "New Ad" or "In Progress, Responsive Display Ad".
If you see "New Ad", don't upload anything.
If you see "In Progress, Responsive Display Ad":
> Click on "Change".
> Select "Upload Display Ads" but don't upload anything.
> Click on "Leave".
> Click on the blue "Cancel".
Step 10: Create your campaign.
You can now create your campaign. Click "Create Campaign" and continue to the
confirmation screen. Here you see all details that you’ve selected for your campaign,
such as your campaign goal, the preferred start and end date and your campaign
budget.
Step 11: Exit Google Ads.
The fun part is about to begin. Spoiler: it’s creating your in-banner video ads!
