This chapter of the Beginner's Guide will explain how to create and set up the dynamic rules and conditions for your Display Dynamic Ads. Creating conditions will help you build better-performing layouts and deliver more personalized messages to your audience.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION❗❗
At this moment there are only two types of ads that support Dynamic Rules & Conditions:
Social Dynamic Ads
While serving the ad, a different version of the default ad is displayed for each created condition. This way you are able to create more relevant ads with just one feed. It will make sure that the ad will 100% be able to get the most out of every single line item in the associated feed.
Before creating any condition, it is very important to generate all ad sizes you need. Once you set up a condition, it is not possible to add extra sizes. Find below some important information about dynamic rules and conditions:
It is possible to add up to 20 conditions to a set.
A condition can consist of up to 10 rules.
A condition can’t have the same rule added twice.
A minimum of 1 line item needs to be affected by the condition in order to save the condition.
A condition can’t affect the total line items of your feed. E.g. If your feed contains 500 line items, a condition must affect up to 499 line items.
Some examples of common used conditions are:
If "sale_price" "exists"
If "discount" ">20%"
Each condition is normally set up for a specific set of products. What you want is to ensure products only fall under one unique condition and therefore, the conditions you set up and the rules you add need to be unique and exact counterparts of each other. Have a look at the example below:
Scenario A
Condition 1 = If “sale_price” “exists” AND If “discount” “is less than or equals” “10%”.
Condition 2 = If “sale_price” “exists” AND If “discount” “exists”.
Scenario A, presented above, is not fully correct. Condition 2 overlaps with Condition 1 resulting in products with 10% discount or less also fall into Condition 2 because they do contain a discount. This will result in some products having two different layouts.
To avoid that, we need to change the rule If “discount” “exists” in Condition 2 and make it an exact counterpart of Condition 1’s rule If “discount” “is less than or equals” “10%”. How to do this? Check out the corrected scenario below:
Scenario B
Condition 1 = If “sale_price” “exists” AND If “discount” “is less than or equals” “10%”
Condition 2 = If “sale_price” “exists” AND If “discount” “is more than” “10%”
By setting up exact opposite rules and counterparts we ensure our products to only fall under the most relevant condition and always deliver the most suitable layout and message.
Taking into consideration the scenarios explained above, in this chapter, we will set up a condition for the products that are on sale.
In the "single view" of the editor, click on "Default" and click on "Manage conditions".
You now see an important message. Before creating your first condition, make sure your "default" layout is final. Any changes done to the design after clicking on "Yes, I'm done" won't automatically be copied to the rest of the conditions.
Click on "Yes, I'm done" if your "default" layout is ready.
Add a name to your condition. We recommend adding a name that refers to the condition you are about to create. For example "Sale price" or "Last 10 in stock" so you can easily recognize what ad layouts you are working on or preview later on.
Select an attribute from your feed. The attributes that you see in the dropdown menu refer to the attributes mapped earlier when you uploaded your feed in Bannerwise.
We will choose "sale_price" because we want to create a specific ad layout for products that are on sale.
Select the operation you want. Depending on the operation you select, you need to enter a value: number, word(s), letter(s)...
We will choose "exists" because we want to create a specific ad layout for products that contain a "sale_price" in our feed.
Click on the “+” icon to select “AND” or “OR” if you want to add another rule to your condition and generate specific ad layouts.
In this case, we don't need more rules. So we will proceed with the next step.
Check how many line items will be affected by the condition. When you are ready with setting up your rules and conditions, click on "Save condition".
That's it! This is how you can set up rules and conditions for your dynamic display ads.
If you want to add multiple conditions, simply follow this article from the beginning again.
